Holiday Monday

Since the Fourth of July was on a Sunday this year we had Monday as a legal holiday. We live in an older housing tract. These homes were built in 1951. What did we do? Community service....me, myself, and the hubs! I headed out of my house on a mission. I was determined to complete this task before the day got too warm. Jerry came out a few times to see how I was doing, then back to the comfort of our home he went...as I worked on! Finally he took pity on me and my huge job, and decided to stay and help me finish the job. This is not the first time we have tackled this job. I am amazed that out of the several hundred people that live in our tract, I seem to be the only one that has a problem with how our neighborhood looks to visitors as they enter. Monday is our trash pick-up day and I had empty trash cans. Boy did we fill them... with weeds, trash, clippings, and dirt!
COMPLETELY FILLED
Two 90 gallon barrels!

Our city has a street sweeper that comes on Tuesdays, after our Monday trash pick-up. This car you see parked here, well, usually there are at least 6 to 8 parked... Every. Day . Monday through Friday. The street sweeper NEVER sees the curb along this stretch. Leaves, coffee cups, corn on the cob on sticks, ect. litter the gutter.

This stretch is 2/10 of a mile. Doesn't seem all that far, until you are cleaning it.
Did I mention we filled 2 ninety gallon barrels?
We also have someone in the "hood" that likes to remove this cover and use it as a step to climb over the block wall. RUDE! Someone walking in the dark could seriously hurt themselves falling in the hole left by the removal of this cover.

OK, I'm starting to feel better about the entrance.

The trees have been trimmed so you can walk under or around them.
Swept gutters.....yes!

Trash and leaves removed...uh huh!
Runners cut and Round-Up applied!

Things are looking up!
We actually have two other entrances to this tract.
Someone else is going to have to cover them...
We have all we can handle at this end!
I hope you had a happy and safe 4th!
