More on the Twin Pirates

Thank you all for the nice comments on yesterday's post. I might need to explain a little better what was involved. I think you all gave me too much credit. This is a pile of the boys old bumper pads. All I did was tear them all apart, then added a few pieces of material into different places to make the size I needed for the new pillows. Luckily I didn't have to build these pillows from scratch, all the piece work was already done.

Both boys pillows are now done.

The next thing I made them is pillow cases to match their existing quilts. The pillowcases were store bought. I cut out the little pirates from one of the pads and sewed then on the cases. Also I used some of the polka dot fabric to put on the casing to jazz it up some.
Cute little guys, don't you agree?
I'm off to Laci's house tomorrow to sew curtains for the living room.

Those Pirate Boys

This is the remnants of the twins crib bedding. They moved into toddler beds awhile back. For the first few days they really missed the bumper pads, so Laci tried to attach them on the new beds. They didn't last very long like that. She asked me if I could re purpose the pads to a pillow. Tonight I started it. Cutting up pieces to sew back together.
Customizing them, one for each of my little guys!
I have Jace's finished. This is the front.....

...this is the back. I need a few more sections to finish Quinn's. Laci has them at her house. I wish we lived closer...I'm on a roll!

Tomorrow's another day!

Things That Make Me Happy!

Cloud watching
flowers and ladybugs
Plumeria cuttings from a friend (thanks Sonia), that bloom
into a beautiful plant
Lisianthus and Rudbeckia
While I was out watering today, I had a Yellow Swallowtail butterfly checking out my yard. She spent a couple of minutes, just fluttering around, visiting! I didn't have my camera to get a photo. When I was done watering and turned around to shut the water off I saw this.
I love it when balloons just seem to show up for no reason. I never saw it coming, just turned around and it was there. Balloons make me happy!
The balloon was actually in a planter. I tied it on the wagon so I could get my camera.
Then I remembered I had a shepherd's hook with a butterfly, so I tied it to that too.

Warm summer days = happiness
..and so does our little pool that I can cool my toes in...
..or my whole body if I choose.
When the nights seem to stay almost as warm as the days,
This little baby makes me very happy!
This room, where I spend most of my time, holds all of my favorite things...
especially the ladybugs, and love notes!

What makes you happy?

Fun Friday

Laci came in for the day with the kids and the dog. We spent a good portion of the day playing in the back yard and swimming.
Mackenzi
Jace
Quinn

Lots of giggles, the kids were sitting with Boppa and were being so silly.
Thanks for coming, I had a great time

More Sweeties for my Sweeties

Don't you just love the sweet little scallop at the bottom. How about the fact that this is reversible? Now on to making the accessories!
*UPDATE*
I wasn't really happy with the shoulder strap/tie. I substituted a blue grosgrain ribbon and I am very happy with the look now.

Then I made a bow with a matching button.
The background color is not very good, but you get the idea!

I am having a good time sewing for the kids. I used to sew a good portion of my big girls clothes when they were small.

Dear Mother Nature

I am thoroughly enjoying the spectacular show you are having in the sky in the late afternoons of these summer days....HOWEVER, could you possibly throw in a few local thunderstorms? That would be the icing on the cake!
Thanks ever so much, I'll be waiting....

Remembering...

Days not so long ago when my yard was filled with babies and toddlers playing for hours with all of this, and then some. The fire truck is missing but will be returning very soon. I'm seriously contemplating a toy sale on Craig's list. Time will tell....

On a Roll

Remember this fabric? Yes, I made a tablecloth with it. I also plan to make new window treatments in the kitchen with it. I want to accent with aqua. I think the two colors, when paired, have a vintage look.
I just finished these towels. One is a tea towel
the other a hand towel.
These were really easy to do and make plain old towels look cute!
I love the colors together. Now, where did I put my ambition... and that darn paint brush!
Oh, and I can't believe this is post # 301!

Our Friend Charlie

This is Charlie's canary. This is a boy bird. He and his mate had one egg a few years ago that produced a son. Mama passed away a few months ago, Charlie was so sad. A few days later Charlie was cleaning the cage, had the door open to replace the food, and the son slipped out between the door and his arm. Charlie was devastated. He felt so bad! He went from three birds to 1 in a matter of a few days. This bird appeared to be so sad, all alone in the cage.Canary's are kind of pricey. I searched on Craig's List and found one for a very reasonable price. It was from a private party, and, more than half the cost of what the pet store charges.
So, I surprised Charlie with this sweet little apricot girl, for the lonesome boy.
Guess what?
Hopefully this cage will be back to having three birds in no time! Charlie asked if I could make something to help keep the bird seed from making such a mess. This is what I came up with...

...a skirt for to catch the seed, and a cover for the top. Mama bird also has a little privacy at her end of the cage. Hopefully this egg will hatch around the 24th of this month...

Pillowcase Dresses for my Girls!

So sweet, that Dana would hi-jack my blog to post for Kelsea...so sweet.
Anyway, Yesterday morning I was reading blogs and came across a blog that had some darling pillowcase dresses. Laci and I have been wanting to give them a try for a while now. I had some scrap supplies, time for me to jump in!I got my morning inspiration from this crafty lady, go check out her blog, I'm sure you will agree.
Next I decided to Google "pillowcase dresses" just to see what was out there. I came across this fabulous tutorial. She made it look so easy . I went a little further and added some embellishments and ruffles. Who doesn't love ruffles, so girly! Then I was off to Old Navy for a few pairs of flip flops, I added coordinating fabric flowers and the outfit is complete!
Look at those darling little piggies! I think the girls were more jazzed about the shoes than the dresses. I guess I'll be making a few more pairs, in different colors!
