You've Got to be Kidding Me!
Do you ever have a moment in your busy day that you look around and think, "You've GOT to be kidding me?!?" . I'm sure you do. So, play along with Laci's carnival. We will be posting our 'moments' every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month! It'll be fun...come on!
Last month I "helped" both Dana and Laci sew costumes for the kiddos for Halloween. While I was at Dana's house helping her, Braeden came to sit at the table where we were sewing. With a marker and paper he was very busy. First he showed me how he could draw stars doing the up, down, across, across, then down method. Then, he showed me how he was trying to learn to draw stars freehand. This method was a little harder for him, he is just 5 years old. Braeden missed going to school last year because his birthday is in December. This year he is in a kinder/ first grade combo class, and doing very well. Dana and I were busy doing measuring, pinning cutting and then sewing Kelsea's bat wings for her costume. Braeden asked me to look at his paper that I assumed was his doodling with stars. WOW, was I amazed, this is what I saw!
YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
This kid is a math whiz. I was totally blown away....I asked Dana if this was protocol for kindergarten?......NO! I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing so I gave him a three number problem, similar to the ones he wrote and asked him what the answer was. He kinda looked up, rolled his eyes a little as he was thinking, then gave me the correct answer! All done in his head....not on paper...no counting fingers...just off the top of his smart little head!
When I noticed the square root problem, that Kevin said was right, ( I don't like math, never have, and couldn't tell you how to do a square root problem if my life depended on it)
all I could say is....You've got to be kidding me!!!....and that's MY boy!

Teaching Kenzi New Tricks!
Hey Braeden, could you show me how to climb that tree? I think you should start with something a little easier, OK? How about that pirate ship? OK, tell me what to do first. Oh, from the chair, like this?
...and do a little jump while I hold on, ....like this? ...and use my big muscles to pull myself up on top!
Awesome!
We did it!!!
Thanks buddy, you're the best!
No problem...next time, it's the tree!
